Built for small business.
Honest about software.
Kit SEO is an independent software review and SEO resource for small businesses in the USA and Canada. We compare the tools, write honest reviews, say clearly which ones we have used ourselves, and share free guides to help you get found on Google — so you can focus on running your business.
Why we built Kit SEO
Small businesses in the USA and Canada spend thousands of dollars every year on software tools — often choosing the wrong ones because the reviews they find online are outdated, written by people who have never actually used the product, or quietly sponsored by the companies being reviewed.
We started Kit SEO in 2022 to fix that. Our goal is simple: be a software review site that small businesses in North America can trust. Every review is based on hands-on use where we have it, and on careful research of pricing, features and user reviews where we don't — and each guide says which is which. We focus on what actually works for businesses with 1–50 employees.
We also noticed that most small businesses — even the ones with great products and services — were invisible on Google. So we publish free, easy-to-follow SEO guides to help them get found by the customers who need them.
Today Kit SEO covers 16 software categories with in-depth guides that compare pricing, features, and Canadian support side by side. We update each guide when prices or features change.
What we stand for
We say when a product is mediocre. We include cons even for products that pay us a commission. If we wouldn't recommend a tool to a friend starting a business, it doesn't get a glowing review from us.
We are built for USA and Canadian small businesses. We cover Canadian-specific features (GST/HST, CASL, Helcim, Wagepoint) that US-focused review sites routinely ignore or get wrong.
Where we have used a tool ourselves — Grasshopper, ShipStation, WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify, SiteGround, Hostinger, Semrush and Ahrefs — we share that experience. For every other tool we say so plainly and rely on the vendor's own pricing pages and verified user reviews. Not rewriting press releases.
Software changes fast. We update our reviews regularly and display the last updated date on every post. If pricing or features change, we change the post — not six months later, but when we find out.
We make money through affiliate commissions. We label affiliate links and sponsored placements, and our Affiliate Disclaimer page explains how we earn money.
We write for business owners, not IT departments. No unnecessary technical complexity. If you don't have a computer science degree, you should still be able to act on our recommendations.
How we research and review software
Every review on Kit SEO follows the same rigorous process. Here is exactly how we evaluate a product before recommending it.
We use the product ourselves when we can, and every guide notes whether a tool was tested hands-on or researched.
We compare the product against the top 3–5 alternatives in the same category on key features, pricing, and usability.
We read G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot reviews to understand real-world issues that don't show up in trials.
We check pricing and features against the vendor's own website whenever a guide is updated, and show the update date on the page.
We check for GST/HST support, Canadian payroll, CASL compliance, and Canadian bank integrations on every relevant product.
We write pros and cons based on what we found — not what the vendor wants us to say. Cons are included even for affiliate products.
Meet Alex Reid
Kit SEO is written and run by one person. Alex Reid is the pen name our founder writes under to keep their personal life private — the experience behind every guide is real.
Alex has been doing SEO for small businesses in Alberta for more than 4 years. Alex builds and runs sites on WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify, hosted them on SiteGround before moving to Hostinger, and has used Semrush and Ahrefs for keyword and backlink research. Alex writes every guide on Kit SEO and says plainly in each one which tools come from personal use and which were researched.
What we cover
We publish in-depth reviews, comparisons, and buying guides across 16 software categories for small businesses.
🇨🇦 Canadian businesses — we see you
Most software review sites are written by and for US businesses. We specifically cover the features, integrations, and compliance requirements that matter to Canadian small businesses — GST/HST, CASL, Canadian payroll, and tools built or optimised for the Canadian market. If a tool doesn't work well in Canada, we say so.
We correct our mistakes
Software changes fast and we sometimes get things wrong. Here is how we handle corrections.
When we are told about an error, we check it and correct the article as quickly as we can. We also proactively review content when vendors announce major changes.
Found something incorrect? Use our contact form and include the page URL and what needs correcting. We read every message.
Every post displays a "Last updated" date. This reflects the most recent substantial review of the content — not just a cosmetic edit.
